Pittsworth State High School began a Bring Your Own Device (BYOx) program in 2010. Parents of incoming year 8 students were offered the opportunity to purchase a single model of laptop for their child that would be setup to work with our school systems and software.
For parents, the purchase of this laptop guaranteed their child entry to a “laptop class”. The program was specifically focused on year 8 and 9 students with core staff involved in the delivery of the information and communication technologies (ICT)-based curriculum.
Over the last few years, as interest from students and parents has increased, the program has evolved from a laptop class to a laptop program with students with laptops distributed across all classes in their year level. With changes to technology, the choice of device has changed from full form factor laptop to ultra-portable and the 2014 school year will see us embarking on a new adventure utilising iPad Mini’s.
